Passati alcuni giorni, il re Agrippa e Berenice arrivarono a Cesarea per salutare Festo.

E Agrippa disse a Festo: «Vorrei udirlo anch'io codest'uomo». Quello rispose: «Domani l'udrai».

Il giorno appresso, Agrippa e Berenice vennero in gran pompa, e, entrati nella sala d'udienza coi tribuni e co' notabili della città, Paolo, per ordine di Festo, fu menato innanzi.

E Festo disse: «Re Agrippa, e tutti che siete qui presenti, voi vedete quest'uomo contro il quale tutta la moltitudine de' Giudei s'è rivolta a me in Gerusalemme, gridando non esser più degno di vivere.

Ma non ho nulla di ben certo da scriverne al sovrano; perciò l'ho fatto venire davanti a voi, e principalmente davanti a te, o re Agrippa, affinché, dopo questo esame, io abbia qualcosa da scrivere.

- E Agrippa disse a Paolo: «Puoi parlare in tua difesa». Allora Paolo, stesa la mano, cominciò in tal modo a difendersi:

«Re Agrippa, io ho la fortuna di potermi oggi difendere davanti a te di tutte le accuse che mi fanno i Giudei,

Perciò, o re Agrippa, io non fui disubbidiente alla celeste visione;

Re Agrippa, credi tu ai Profeti? Io so che ci credi».

E Agrippa, disse a Paolo: «Poco manca che tu non mi fai diventar cristiano!».

E Agrippa disse a Festo: «Quest'uomo poteva esser messo in libertà, se non si fosse appellato a Cesare».

Quelques jours après, le roi Agrippa et Bérénice arrivèrent à Césarée, pour saluer Festus.

Agrippa dit à Festus : Je voudrais aussi entendre cet homme. Demain, répondit Festus, tu l’entendras.

Le lendemain donc, Agrippa et Bérénice vinrent en grande pompe, et entrèrent dans le lieu de l’audience avec les tribuns et les principaux de la ville. Sur l’ordre de Festus, Paul fut amené.

Alors Festus dit : Roi Agrippa, et vous tous qui êtes présents avec nous, vous voyez cet homme au sujet duquel toute la multitude des Juifs s’est adressée à moi, soit à Jérusalem, soit ici, en s’écriant qu’il ne devait plus vivre.

Agrippa dit à Paul : Il t’est permis de parler pour ta défense. Et Paul, ayant étendu la main, se justifia en ces termes :

Je m’estime heureux, roi Agrippa, d’avoir aujourd’hui à me justifier devant toi de toutes les choses dont je suis accusé par les Juifs,

En conséquence, roi Agrippa, je n’ai point résisté à la vision céleste :

Crois-tu aux prophètes, roi Agrippa ?... Je sais que tu y crois.

Et Agrippa dit à Paul : Tu vas bientôt me persuader de devenir chrétien !

Et Agrippa dit à Festus : Cet homme pouvait être relâché, s’il n’en eût pas appelé à César.

Agrippas aber sprach zu Festo, ich wollt den menschen auch gern horen, Er aber sprach, Morgen solltu yhn horen.

Vnd am andern tage, da Agrippas vnd Bernice kam mit grossem geprenge, vnd giengen ynn das richthaus mit den vberhewptleutten vnnd furnemisten mennern der stad, vnd da es Festus hies, ward Paulus bracht,

vnd Festus sprach, Agrippa lieber konig, vnnd alle yhre menner, die yhr mit vns hie seyt, Da sehet yhr den, vmb wilchen mich die gantze menge der Juden anlanget hat, beyde zu Jerusalem vnd auch hie, vnd schreyen, Er solle nicht lenger leben,

von welchem ich nichts gewisß habe, das ich dem herrn schreybe, Darumb hab ich yhn lassen erfur bringen fur euch, aller meyst aber fur dich konig Agrippa, auff das, nach geschehner forschung, ich haben muge, was ich schreybe,

Agrippas aber sprach zu Paulo, Es ist dyr erleubt fur dich zureden, Da verantwortet sich Paulus vnd reckt die hand aus,

Jch achte mich, Lieber Agrippa, selig, so ich mich heutte fur dyr verantwortten soll, alles des ich von den Juden beschuldiget werde,

zu wilcher hoffen zu komen die zwelff geschlecht der vnsern, mit Gotts dienst tag vnd nacht emsiglich, Diser hoffnung halb werd ich, lieber konig Agrippa, von den Juden beschuldiget,

Da her, lieber konig Agrippa, war ich der hymlischen erscheynung nicht vnglewbig,

Gleubistu konig Agrippa den propheten? Jch weys das du glewbist,

Agrippas aber sprach zu Paulo, Es feylt nicht viel, du vbirredtist mich, das ich eyn Christen wurde,

Agrippas aber sprach zu Festo, diser mensch hett kunden los geben werden, wenn er sich nicht auff den keyser beruffen hette.

Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and greeted Festus.

Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”

So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.

Festus said, “King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

Of whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord. Therefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, that, after examination, I may have something to write.

Agrippa said to Paul, “You may speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand, and made his defense.

“I think myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before you this day concerning all the things that I am accused by the Jews,

which our twelve tribes, earnestly serving night and day, hope to attain. Concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, King Agrippa!

“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.”

Agrippa said to Paul, “With a little persuasion are you trying to make me a Christian?”

Agrippa said to Festus, “This man might have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
